Ramadan on Keto

Salam Ramadan Kareem to all of us. Doing Keto while fasting is not as difficult as I thought it would be. It could be due to the fact that most of us do Itermitten fasting (IF) therefore the body is used to eat once (omad - one meal a day) or twice a day only.


I drank water in many ways during fasting month thru herbal teas - I love flavoured teabags - strawberry/ peppermint, Bulletproof coffee or my Ice coffee, bone broth or clear soup, smoothie and good old plain water.


I shared so many delicious recipes on my instagram so its quite hard to choose which one I want to share the fun recipe here.


Sharing Bone Broth recipe here which I cooked weekly and keep in fridge to add to my egg drop soup or just drink it as meal.


Its rich in electrolytes (magnesium, sodium and potassium) helps with keto flu as well as other minerals (calcium and phosphorus) and for us ladies it has gelatine and collagen to plump up our faces after that weight loss :).


It keeps our joints, ligaments, tendon and bone healthy too.


You know how much I love oxtail and one of the reason why is due to that high fat content in this meat cut. So in this recipe I'm using oxtail but feel free to change to ribs or other meat cuts or to organic kampung chicken.


Ingredients :

1 kg of Oxtail

2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

2 slices galanghal

2 slices ginger

1 soup bunjut

1 cinnamon stick, 2 star anise and 4 cardamons

6 garlic cloves

1 celery stick (Cut roughly)

1 coriander root and stalk

Salt and blackpepper to taste


Instructions :

Put all in the pot and cover with water. Then starts cooking.

Preferably cooked in slow cooker or pressure cooker however I have in the past cook this in normal pot, its doable just that it will takes longer time (about 2-3 hours).


I like to use slow cooker and leaves it to simmer for 24 hours and wakes up to the smell of this wholesome goodness.


Its my go to dish for feeling down, feverish, flu, fatigue or just as pick me up.


Do give it a try, its an easy dish to do, nutritious and very keto the asian way.








As I shared in my @asianketo instagram, menses came back on 25 May 2018 last Friday after being on forced menopause since March 2016. Currently I'm taking tamoxifen. Bit of info : while the hormone oestrogen promotes the growth of breast cancer cells, tamoxifen works as anti oestrogen. By blocking the oestrogen receptors, it is believed that the growth of breast cancer cells will be halted. Will be meeting my gynaecologist this week and going to do hormone test. Will update on this blog the outcomes.
